I don’t know how I haven’t come across this article before! I’m in the process of building a REST API next to our perfectly fine SOAP API so javascript clients can consume it “better”. We’ve abstracted our actual .NET API beneath both mechanisms because I fully anticipate a new trendy API in the future, and we’ll just wrap our same .NET API with whatever that is.

The reason crap like REST happens is very simple: Young programmers don’t take 10 seconds to do a Google search regarding what has been done before -they just start coding so they can feel like they created something. Otherwise they would have realized that Swagger was done 20 years ago in something called IDL. DEC’s COM had interfaces for C’s sake!

I seriously can’t give enough applause to this article. Great work.
